SPEAKING WITH GENIALLY

Hi mates!
This time we are going to work on the listening and speaking skills and, for that purpose, we are going to use the web/app called GENIALLY. This web/app allows us to create digital content in different ways such as infographics, video presentations or even games. Even though we won't be able to put it into practice in class right now, I am going to detail how this activity will be presented in my 3ESO class when we come back from our Christmas holidays.

Firstly, students will be asked to sign in to get to know the web/app better before starting to use it. Every term, students create presentations based on the topics learned in class and this time they will be asked to do these presentations using Genially in a more interactive and dynamic way.

Afterward, they will have to make groups of two or three and choose the topic and date they will be presenting taking into account the contents in our planning for the rest of the term which are: animals, urban life, health, food and nutrition and parts of the body. Among these topics, they will be free to direct the content of their presentations as they like.

The next step is to present the modality of Genially that will be used, which is in this case VIDEO PRESENTATION. I will make a quick showing of the contents available in Genially to make this type of presentation and we will brainstorm the possibilities available.

Students will be given a rubric to see in advance how their projects will be evaluated and will also be asked to evaluate their classmates' projects after each presentation. This way they will feel more involved in the presentations. We will also do a checklist of the things they consider important to be included in those presentations before they start creating them.
I will make sure this checklist includes a box to include some presenting strategies to maintain the listeners' attention such as making questions or including mini-quizzes, for example.

I think this type of activity will help students improve their communication skills in general and having the preparation and guidance needed will also encourage them and make them feel more prepared for the activity. The last term, they felt quite comfortable making their oral presentations and asking and answering questions afterwards, but I felt they needed to prepare their presentations a bit more so these resources (the checklist and rubric) and the fact that they will be involved in the evaluation process too will surely make them more prepared and conscious during the whole process.

When the checklist, rubric and first presentations are ready, I will upload them so you can check the progress. By now, here's an example that I made to present the whole task to my students.
