A timeline about the greatest conquerors using TimeToast

Hi mates!

This time I am going to introduce a new website/app that we are using this week in class called TIMETOAST.

We are using TimeToast to create a timeline with information about the greatest conquerors in history, but first of all,let me explain how it all started.

According to our textbook and planning, we are working on past and perfect tenses as well as learning how to use the present and past passive voice.

We are also working on vocabulary related to trips and travelling and we are also working on written biographies. Sometimes I prefer creating an activity that joins all these things we are learning and which will end up in a beautiful and interesting project 😍

The objective was to practise our reading comprehension, the vocabulary and grammar that we are learning in class and review the structure of a biography at the same time.

One of the advantages of using this type of website/app is that it helps you visualise contents better, mostly when you have different dates. It also allows you to have a more visual summary of the text you are working on.

To prepare this activity, I had to read lots of information about different conquerors in history and choose the information that was more relevant to my class and students. Although it took me some hours, I really enjoyed this part because I learnt A LOT about them. I also changed the grammar to use the passive voice and the past and perfect tenses and I made sure some of the irregular verbs were included as well.

After that, I created a presentation using Piktochart to present that information using also pictures to make it more visual.

Students in pairs or groups of three had to read this information and make a summary with what they thought was the most interesting facts to create their timelines.  We reviewed in class a tutorial on how to use the app to clear doubts and I found that students did not have problems using it afterwards.

After seeing the results, I would include more information next time or make students find the information according to their interests. Some of them found information about other conquerors and included interesting facts about them too.

So, to sum up, I think using TimeToast has helped my students' motivation, it has also helped us integrate different skills in one activity and has improved their ICT skills and resources.
